Bryan Singer- Bohemian Rhapsody
Bryan Singer- Bohemian Rhapsody
In 2018 ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ was delivered to our screens after much suspense for the Queen Biopic which pays tribute to the late star, Freddie Mercury. The film was originally announced in 2010 but it wasn’t until 2017 that Bryan Singer took on the feat to cast and produce the film.
The plot follows the life of Mercury,
forming the rock band Queen and becoming the sensation that we know of today.
We see a glimpse into their world of rock tours, music producers, love
interests and turns in the relationships of the band members, leading up to the
legendary 1985 Live Aid performance, one of the greatest performances in the
history of rock music. The undertones of the film play to Mercury’s sexuality, HIV
and eventual AIDS diagnosis during a time when fear and prejudice were rife.
The British premier took place in the
Wembley Arena where the 1985 Live Aid concert was held, with Brian May and Roger
Taylor in attendance, who also served as consultants on the movie. The film
became a major box office success, grossing over $910 million
worldwide with production budget of $50 million becoming the highest grossing
film of 2018. It won multiple awards including Best Motion Picture- Drama at
the 76th Golden Globe awards whilst its lead actor Rami Malek won the Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and BAFTA for
Best Actor.
Singer retains sole director
credit for the movie having hired the cast, crew and directed at least two
thirds of the film before leaving due to personal health reasons, it therefore
follows his production style and vision. Bohemian Rhapsody is the latest film
we have seen in Singers repertoire and we wait in anticipation of his next big success.
